The diverse work of DFAT's Tasmania State Office
The Director Tasmania State Office, Ms Ruth Baird will discuss the DFAT State Office's varied work with government and businesses, with a view to making the most of international trade and investment opportunities, promoting understanding of Australia's foreign, trade, development and investment policy in the community and assisting the Australian public with consular and passport services. Ruth will also reflect on her experiences overseas, including in South Asia and the Pacific.

Ruth commenced as Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Tasmania State Office in May 2023. She is responsible for managing DFAT's engagement with a wide range of stakeholders in Tasmania, including government, business, international organisations, academia, the arts and the community. Baird is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently in Cook Islands. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Politics from the University of Tasmania, and Master of International Relations and Diplomacy from the Australian National University.
