Dr Tony Press, eminent speaker on Antarctic security and environment, together with a panel of young researchers, will discuss changes in the Antarctic Treaty system over the past 25 years, and explore scenarios for what may lie ahead for the southern continent in an uncertain and conflicted world. What impact may the Russia-Ukraine conflict have on the far south? What role may China play in the future of Antarctica? What of climate change and other significant environmental challenges?
Panellists will include Dr Indi Hodgson Johnson from the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science and Bruno Arpi from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tasmania.
This event is a joint initiative of the AIIA and the University of Tasmania, at which Dr Press will also receive his Fellowship of AIIA.
This will be a hybrid event. For those attending in-person we will have some refreshments on site thanks to UTAS.
